Evidence matching and scoring

Every question is rated against the documents for that project. The rating grades the evidence, not the law: it says how well your records support an answer, not whether the IRS would accept it.

The three grades

GradeMeaningScore weight
StrongA matched document supports the answer directly.0 points
WeakThere is support, but it is partial, late or indirect.Half the question's weight
MissingNo matching document was found. The question's full weight

A worked example

Question F3 asks for the process of experimentation used to resolve the uncertainty. For the fictional gripper-arm project in the sample claim, the matched files are the load-test workbook, the ticket export and the commit log. The rating is Strong, with the reason: "Load tests cover three prototypes, with failures and design changes logged in Jira and Git."

For the vision-system project in the same sample claim, the same question is Weak: three calibration approaches are described in the project plan, but the trial logs that record each result were not uploaded.

What a rating shows

  • The matched files, so you can see what the rating rests on.
  • The reason, in one sentence.
  • The weight and the points it adds to the score.
  • A red-flag marker where the question is one that can override the band.

Limits

Note.Matching is by document content and category. A rating is a product assessment of evidence quality. It is not a legal decision, and it can be changed by a reviewer.

General in nature, not tax advice.
